Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert Nov 9th!
This November will mark the twentieth anniversary of the tragic passing of Freddie Mercury. As the lead singer and frontman of Queen, his music has inspired generations of fans and musicians alike. Approaching this historic milestone, I wanted to create an event where anyone who has ever loved the music of Queen could come together and celebrate the life and music of Freddie Mercury, and raise money for a worthy cause.
I joined forces with Brendon Small and Brendan McCreary to produce The Show Must Go On: A Tribute to Freddie Mercury, a one-night concert of the music of Queen, performed by some of the most talented and in-demand musicians in Los Angeles. All proceeds benefit AIDS Project Los Angeles, to help combat the deadly disease which took Freddie from this world.
Brendon Small is the lead singer and songwriter for Dethklok, the influential cross-over metal band, originating from Metalocalypse, the smash hit Adult Swim series he created and stars in. Brendon will be featured on lead guitar.
Lead vocals will be covered by Brendan McCreary, frontman and songwriter of Young Beautiful in a Hurry. Fans of series I’ve worked on will instantly recognize his powerful voice from his performance of “All Along the Watchtower” in Battlestar Galactica as well as dozens of songs that have appeared in Caprica, Human Target, Terminator and more.
And of course, I will be playing piano and keyboards. And perhaps some Wurlitzer if we do a certain song. 🙂
The rest of the all-star line up is a dream team of musicians I am honored to share the stage with, including Mike Keneally (Frank Zappa, Steve Vai, Dethklok), Gene Hoglan (Dethklok, Strapping Young Lad), Rick Musallam (The Roots, Gwen Stefani), Pete Griffin (Zappa Plays Zappa), Felice Hernandez (Vatos Tribute to Halloween, Pretzel Logic) and, of course, Raya Yarbrough (Telarc/Concord Recording Artist, Battlestar Galactica).
At first, it was hard to imagine that we’ve lived in a world without Freddie for two decades. However, then I realized that the music of Queen has only grown in power and relevance since his passing. The Show Must Go On is our chance to get together, enjoy a night of timeless music performed by incredible musicians and raise money for a most worthy charity.
