I’m Getting Married!!

Thanks to the blistering speed of news across the internet, many of you already know about this.  But here it is anyway.  Yes, I am now engaged to the lovely Raya Yarbrough!

There were two things I’ve known for years I must accomplish before I turned 30.  First, I had to finish composing my final episode of Battlestar Galactica, since I’d spent more than half my 20’s working on it.  More importantly, I also knew I had to finally pop the question to Raya.

I composed my last cue on Saturday the 14th, and Raya and I were engaged before sunset on the 15th.  I turned 30 on the 17th.  So, I made it, with a day to spare!

“Prelude to War” World Premiere Performance in March!

March 7th, 2009 will mark the first European performance of my music: The World Premiere of “Prelude to War” by the Hagen Philharmonic and Ballet of the Hagen Theatre in Germany.  It will run throughout the spring, for 13 weeks.

“Prelude” is based on my scores for Battlestar Galactica, incorporating music from all four seasons (see the full program order below).  The orchestra will be in the pit, but the taiko drums will share the stage with the dancers, incorporating their movements and energy into the visual performance.  This ballet tells no specific narrative, but rather allows the dancers, lights, taiko drum ensemble and full orchestra to come together and support the story within the music itself.

Two Shows in LA This Week!

There are two exciting performances in Los Angeles this week for any BG fans in driving, flying, walking or crawling distance!

First up, this Thursday is the Eleventh Alternajazz Festival!  This festival is organized by Raya Yarbrough, who is performing with her band in it as well.  You’ll recognize her haunting vocals from many of my Galactica cues, most notably Lords of Kobol, A Distant Sadness and the hymn for Gaius’ cult from the Season 4 premiere.  However, you’ll also recognize the first track from her absolutely stunning self-titled albumLord Knows I Would, because it’s been featured numerous times in BG, playing loudly at Joe’s Bar in Season 3 and 4.  I guess that means she’s a big hit in the colonial fleet!

Oct. 15th Event at EMP in Seattle!

I’m excited to announce that on October 15th I’ll be featured at the EMP SFM series Exposed: Inside Film.  This is a new film series that looks at new films, cult favorites and classic sci fi and music films followed by an interview with people who worked on them.  It will take place at the stunning Experience Music Project / Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame in Seattle, Washington.

During my interview, we will present clips from Battlestar Galactica, Eureka, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Wrong Turn 2, and some snippets of the Music of Battlestar Galactica documentary that premiered at my BG concerts in April.

See You at Comic Con! (UPDATED)

Anyone going to Comic Con this year?

I’ll be among the 100,000 that take the pilgrimage to the Geek Mecca that is San Diego this July.  On Thursday July 24, I’ll be appearing on the Battlestar Galactica 30th Anniversary Panel (11:15 – 12:15, Room 6B), hosted by original Apollo / Tom Zarek himself, Richard Hatch!  The panel will also include Tom DeSanto and science advisor Kevin Grazier.  If you haven’t been to any of our recent Comic Con panels, you should definitely check it out.  Richard has some great footage to show, and we may screen some selections from my recent Music of Battlestar Galactica documentary.

And stick around until Sunday night, July 27th.  I will perform at an exclusive double-bill concert, featuring the Singers of Battlestar Galactica.  I’m playing with Raya Yarbrough and Brendan McCreary, in two sets of their own original material.  These artists frequently sing on my scores, but you can’t truly appreciate their talent until you’ve heard them perform their original songs (although, I wouldn’t be surprised if a few Galactica songs popped up in there as well… perhaps a Dylan cover?).  Other Galactica musicians, such as violin maestro Paul Cartwright and guitarist Steve Bartek will also share the stage.  And we’ll have some surprise Galactica guests as well!
