Smirnoff Signature

While I was scoring the last four episodes of Battlestar Galactica’s third season last winter, I also wrote and produced music for a Smirnoff Vodka global marketing campaign.

The impressive visuals give you the basic structure of the Smirnoff family story. It’s actually quite a brilliant little piece, transitioning from war-torn Russia, through Paris, and into contemporary America.

Quick BG Updates

Some quick updates for the Galactica fans out there.

I know everybody wants to know when the next live Galactica concert is and I’ve finally got a vague, but close-to-being-finalized answer….

The Battlestar Galactica Live Concert in Los Angeles has been postponed to January 2008. [Update: It has since been postponed to April 2008]

The reasons for the delay are too numerous to mention, but I’m planning on scheduling the performance very close to the premiere of Season 4. I hope to have all the details locked down in the next month or two, so stay vigilant and keep checking back every once in a while. This concert will be worth the wait. We’ll be performing highlights from Seasons 1, 2 and 3 and probably give a sneak preview of the score to Season 4. I’m also expanding the ensemble this year to include some of the string pieces, so we’ll be performing “A Promise to Return” among others.

BG3 / WT2 Album Updates

Wow! I knew it would take me a while to get back to this blog, but I never thought it would be 5 months! After finishing the intense Bob-Dylan-inspired Galactica season finale, I think I needed a little time off. So here’s what’s new…

I will begin scoring the two-hour straight-to-DVD movie, Battlestar Galactica: Razor, next week. I’m looking forward to diving back into the Galactica universe for one last season. And no, I didn’t score the trailers Sci Fi Channel has been running. I’m never involved with any of the promos, even though sometimes they’ll use my score in the ads.

There are some really exciting releases coming up in the next few months. I spent my entire spring and summer working on the new Battlestar Galactica Season Three Soundtrack Album for you guys and it’s finally finished!

BG3: “Crossroads, Part II”

“‘There must be some way out of here,’

Said the joker to the thief.

‘There’s too much confusion,

I can’t get no relief.'”

Battlestar Galactica‘s epic third season cliffhanger is among the most daring episodes I’ve seen for any television series. Baltar’s verdict, Roslin’s returning cancer and cryptic Opera House visions, vipers racing towards a battle against staggering odds… all of this would have been more than enough for any typical “cliffhanger.” However, Ron Moore and the other writers also incorporated stunning revelations that have cataclysmic implications for the rest of the series. Season 3 answered many of the series’ long-standing questions, but this final episode introduces countless more.

BG3: “Crossroads, Part I”

The last three episodes function as a trilogy, however the first two installments are more important for what they set up, rather than what actually happens. Regardless, this week’s “Crossroads, Pt. I” still had plenty of exciting musical opportunities. The long-awaited trial of Gaius Baltar finally begins, but rather than focusing entirely on legal proceedings, we are given fascinating glimpses into the lives of various characters, including Laura Roslin, Col. Tigh and Tory.
